Tired of paying over the odds for stupid specialist cartridges? This hack is simple and not at all recommended by Pentel whose ink is delightful, making drawing exciting and rewarding. The fact that a pack of cartridges costs a fortune and I don’t have a fortune made me hacksaw the end of a brush pen off in desperation…

All you need is a parker ink converter for a fountain pen; gently shave away the inside of the neck of the converter with a scalpel and then a little brute force will allow the converter to attach fully…. only a little mind!

In order to allow the converter to sit within the barrel of the pen you’ll need to saw off the end of the Brush-pen barrel- this is a little ugly but cannot be helped (I’m tempted to make a new barrel out of papier mache, sticks, brick dust and copper nails).

You can now use whatever ink you desire with your brush pen- though acrylic inks will probably dry out unless you keep them moving by drawing constantly… an option not available to those of us with day jobs!
